Default How to stop the bots:

So the botting problem annoys many people, why not solve it?

What does a forum, like this one, or any other do when they have a (spam)bot forum?

Well to answer that you'd have to realise the one simple difference between bots and humans:

Humans are intelligent, bots are not.
So forums let people type a serie numbers at registering, to prevent bo0ts adapting these numbers are displayed as an image.

Now: why not do the same at guild wars? I mean: offcourse not at registration, but: every time you enter an area you have to enter a 4 digit code or something like that, after 4 failed attempts you log out.

Prevents botting because the player would have to help the bot every single time it wants to enter an area, taking away the main advantage of botting (gaining gold while not playing).

So? This would be a permanent solution.
And Anet wouldn't have to spend time on banning them.

Why do something the hard way when you can do it the easy way?

that would be hurting the good players because of the bad players. Only hit the botters please, and leave the clean players out of the trouble.

Huh? Hitting the good players? What are you talking about? I am talking about typing 4 numbers each time you enter an instance from a town, how does that affect any non-bot players?

No way am I going to be put at an inconvenience because of the botters, and by the way bots can be programed to be able to rad that type of information and input it.

Erh..I don't think they can, just like the forum system with numbers in an image.

But going through extea trouble? Honestly, how can you be so selfish? typing 4 numbers isn't a lot of trouble!

No it would be a giant pain in the ass, its not being selfish cause just about everyone would agree that its lame. I paid for my accoun, I dont need to prove every zone that Im an actual human thats playing the game.

Besides its allready easy to spot boters by looking at game data. bots do teh same exact movements over and over and over. humans do not even if they are farming.

If you stop the bots then there will just be human players taking over. its an instanced game, so this isnt as big of a problem as in a real mmo, because the bots arnt stealing your mob and your loot.

No: but they are a great source of the money that is being sold at ebay, and the reason why many players are getting rich:

They are helping the inflation.

Now Anet wants to stop these bots right?
Why do they have to go through the trouble of watching the logs over and over again, while a simple solution can do the same trick?

I mean: it takes a few seconds to load an instance right? Say you can start typing while it is loading, you would minimalise the time to a few seconds, really what is a few seconds these days?

Oh and by the way, any easily farmable area will be nerfed due to overbotting:

Any player that hasen't got supreme farming skills can say goodbye to any chanche of earning some money: the difference between the 2 will only grow.
Oh and Anet won't have to nerf any area at all, saving them more time. And they will be able to spent that time doing other more important stuff for the game.

Really 2 or 3 seconds each time you enter an instance is virtually nothing.

Sorry its just an all around bad Idea.

What if you misstype it?

what if you are in a party and a party member messes it up?

What about the people that dont farm, why should they be made to type some lame crap to enter a zone?

It wouldnt stop bots at all, most bots are moniterd by a person sitting with a few pcs set up anyway. they could just type in stuff when needed. There is a reason why no online rpgs have stuff like that. I bet you wont find one person to agree with this.

I hate encountering this stuff on webpages. I don't want to run into it in a game.

I would be unsurprised if something like that came to pass, though.

There are just too many conficts that arise from this, such as party members, putting in the incorrect numbers, the annoyance of even having to do this, etc. Besides anything short of banning the bots is just a band-aid solution, for it was thought that they could not live without the sun... Doh!

Hyro, Trust me on this, Keep Your dignity, Don't argue about this anymore.

I don't want to type in 4 numbers each time I go threw a zone, That does not make me selfish. That makes me Not Annoyed. And if I am not annoyed, everybody wins.

Thousands of people will get annoyed, and when they get annoyed, Anet Gets hate mail, and when Anet can't cope with people they tell you to take it to the forums, meaning they come here so the Dev team can see your posts. Then everybody gets annoyed.

Its a bad idea that resolves a Minor problem. Only and less then 5% of the economy is effected.

Too much of an inconvenience, though it is a good idea otherwise.

Nice idea, loses points on having to do it every time you enter a zone though, that would get really old really fast.
